Probing Depths in Periodontal Pockets (PP)
Probing depth, or pocket depth, is the measurement of the gingival sulcus or pocket as measured from the gingival margin to the apical limit of the sulcus or pocket. Depending on the tooth, probing depths greater than 4 mm in large dogs, 2 mm in small dogs and 1 mm in cats are abnormal and should be charted.

Attachment Level (Loss) Measurement (AL)
Attachment loss is measured from the cementoenamel junction to the depth of the periodontal pocket. It's the combination of the probing depth and gingival recession measurements.
